Florida’s Long-Term Unemployment Crisis and Recent Unemployment Compensation Cuts

Florida’s average and median unemployment duration ranked highest in the country in 2011 and 2012 and was among the top 10 in 2009 and 2010, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In fact, in 2012, the average unemployment tenure in Florida was 44 weeks, about 10 months, compared to an overall 34 weeks for the US as a whole.
